WHO WE ARE: Aquaclear Leisure Ltd

Originally formed in February 2001, Aquaclear Leisure Ltd now operates a portfolio of nine award winning venues, employing almost 300 people across the UK.

In 2008 we were named among the UK’s top 100 restaurant operators in Restaurant Magazine’s inaugural R100 list and ranked top among companies based in the North East.

We are extremely proud that all of our restaurants use locally sourced fresh produce and continue to offer excellent yet affordable standards of food and drink.

As a whole we try to offer a mix of cultures and styles in our venues and as a result they operate under several different brands to ensure there is something for every taste, age and occasion.

Our expanding portfolio briefly comprises of:

Blue Coyote Bar & Grill (Pilgrim St. Newcastle)
www.blue-coyote.co.uk
Famed for its wide-ranging menu and mammoth portions Blue Coyote has something to tempt even the most nervous Tex-Mex novice and offers some alluring daytime deals.  The separate bar area, which offers a massive drinks selection, provides the perfect space to take in the venue’s warm and lively atmosphere without having to order food.

Café Antipasto (Jesmond, Newcastle)
www.cafeantipasto.com
CafeAntipasto, opened in Jesmond in December 2007 and quickly proved popular with multinational customers and those looking for something a little bit different.

Whilst supersize coffees, all day mega-breakfasts and panini’s are served during the day, CafeAntipasto takes on a more sleek mode at night, offering a distinctive “Piattini” menu, ideal for those who love to share and try a range of different dishes.

A recent exciting change to its licence means CafeAntipasto can now serve alcohol from 9am until Midnight, when guests can simply drink without having to dine.

Popolo bar, Lounge and kitchen, (Newcastle & Sheffield)  www.popolo.co.uk
The award winning Popolo offers a laid-back, sophisticated vibe, equally suited to a long lazy afternoon, after work drinks or an unforgettable evening out. Its unique combination of leather booths, exposed industrial pipe work, cult film projections and moody red lighting creates a distinctive atmosphere akin to a gritty 1950s American Diner.

Popolo’s major selling point is its extensive and well studied cocktail menu, which earned the Newcastle venue a place in the Guardian’s Reader’s Guide to the World’s Best Cocktail Bars in 2007.

The huge array of cocktails, carefully selected continental beers and wines is also complemented by a perfectly balanced food menu of modern Italian cuisine.

Earlier this year we expanded the Popolo brand into Leopold Square in Sheffield city centre, making a £750,000 investment that follows the same interior design which earned the Newcastle venue Theme Magazine Bar of The Year in 2002.  This time there’s also a separate restaurant offering more adventurous Italian food.

Ristorante Fiume and River Bar, Washington
www.fiume.co.uk
Fiume and River Bar are Aquaclear Leisure’s most established venues, having earned a remarkable reputation for mouth-watering Italian food and outstanding customer service over the last 15 years.

The whole site had a £750,000 refurbishment in 2007, providing this rural area of Tyne and Wear with the type of venue normally found in Newcastle or Sunderland city centre.

The family focused Fiume restaurant opens 7 days a week, serving up an array of authentic homemade Italian dishes.  Nestling underneath is the trendy River Bar which offers stunning views over the river.

Saltwater Rooftop Bar and Restaurant (Nottingham)
www.saltwater-restaurant.com.
Saltwater in Nottingham has already received its fair share of awards, including being named the best location restaurant in the Observer Food Guide 2006, winner of the Metro News Best Lunchtime Venue award 2005/6 and runner-up in Theme magazine’s Most Beautiful Bar awards 2005/6.

The venue, which offers unrivalled views across Nottingham city centre, recently launched a new food menu to be served in its bar and rooftop terrace, along with an a la carte restaurant offering a more international flavour.

Saltwater also offers regularly entertainment from live DJs.

San Lorenzo (Gosforth and Cramlington)
www.sanlorenzo-restaurant.co.uk
San Lorenzo is one of Aquaclear’s most popular brands and offers high quality and affordable Italian cuisine in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.

The Gosforth restaurant was named as The Gourmet Society’s Best North East Mediterranean Restaurant in 2007, with the £350,000 restaurant and bar in Cramlington opening that same year.
